Description
The Central House hotel burned on March 19, 1944. Trash being burned in the back yard was the cause. Fortunately, there was only one boarder at the time. He got out safely and moved to a room at the Ashland Hotel. The Ashland Fire Department was able to save the adjacent buildings. The hotel was a total loss. The Club Erie Castle which was located in the building moved further down Front Street into what became Club Carlo's and will soon be opening as Erica's Italian Table.
